26 July 1945 - The Clarence Sun

Brodina Johanna Christophersen was born in Longenhorn, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, on April 12, 1858, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl M. Levsen, on July 17, 1945, having reached the age of 87 years, 3 months and 5 days. She was educated in the school of her native country and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the age of thirteen years.

In 1877, when she was nineteen, she came to this country to enjoy every advantage of the opportunities offered in the new world. She came to Clinton county, where on January 28, 1879, she was married to S. Mattias Lorenzen. To this union were born eight children. Surviving are Mrs. R. C. Dethmann of Clarence, Julius of Olin, Anna of Clarence, wife of the deceased Jacob P. Levsen, Amanda, Mrs. Carl M. Levsen of Clarence, and Louis of Olin. Two daughters died in childhood and a son, Bernhart, died in the service of his country, October 23, 1918, in a hospital in Devon, England. Seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren also mourn her passing, as does her brother, August Christophersen, of Clarence, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She always enjoyed the best of health until March 6th when she had a fall from which she never recovered. On Tuesday, July 10th, she suffered a paralytic stroke and although not suffering, she was in a coma, and while just peacefully sleeping, passed from this life.

Mrs. Lorenzen was a great lover of her children and their families, having made her home with each of them at various times since her husband's passing on December 31, 1910. Her courageous and thrifty disposition was displayed through all the years. Her faith and courage were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 20, at the Harrington Funeral Home in Wyoming with the Rev. Mittler of the Clarence Evangelical church in charge. Mrs. Hugh Roberts sang two selections, and was accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Howard Remely, both of Wyoming.

The pallbearers were six grandsons: Arnold and Marvin Dethmann, Virtus Lorenzen, Carl Levsen, Louis and Max Levsen. Assisting with the flowers were the following granddaughters: Miss Viola Dethmann, Mrs. Alta Cashman, Mrs. Helen Norton and Mrs. Lois Ruther. Interment was in the Wyoming cemetery.
