Peter L. Pete Motroni Jr, age 72 of Clinton, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center North. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Pape Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 6:00 P.M.

Peter was born in Clinton on January 4, 1944, the son of Peter L. and Joan C. (Reynolds) Motroni, Sr. He graduated from St. Marys High School in 1962 and attended Quincy College and later St. Ambrose College. Peter married Susan Baier on August 16, 1969 in Chicago. Peter had been employed in sales with Stivers Life Savers in Chicago, later managing their offices in Philadelphia and then Manhattan. He and Susan moved back to Clinton in 1974. Peter was employed with McEleney Motors for 18 years and also worked as a carrier for the Quad City Times. He also worked part time for Eagles Grocery Store. He owned and operated Helens Tap and later Motronis Tavern and Pizza Parlor, working with his wife and children catering events for 12 years. He was currently employed with Sanitol Services. He had served with the Iowa National Guard and was a member of the former St. Irenaeus Church.

Peter enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their school activities and sports. He was the first athletic director at Mt. St. Clare College. He coached baseball and basketball all of his life, most recently with the Pony League Cubs with Clinton Junior Baseball. He had sponsored rugby and softball teams while owning Helens and Motronis. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed family Sunday dinners, bowling, and his previous involvement in local theater. You may have been lucky enough to catch him on stage, as he performed in several plays and dinner theaters throughout the Iowa and Illinois area. Peter was a Past-President and Board Member of the Clinton Bowling Association and was bowling in the Tuesday Early League.

Peter is survived by his wife Susan; three children, Tracy (Daron) Pratt of Lees Summit, MO, Peter (Lisa) Motroni of Clinton and Aimee (Chris) Hammel of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Anthony (Erica) Motroni, Jakob and Katie Motroni, Zoe and Zander Pratt, and Colin and Ryan Hammel; a sister, Kathy Mallicoat of Clinton; four brothers, Tim (Vicki) Motroni of Newton, IA, John (Anne) Motroni of Greenback, TN, Mark Hume of Johnsburg, IL, and Michael L. Motroni of Clinton and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Roy Hume; two sisters-in-law, Connie Motroni and Deb Hume and a brother-in-law, Mark Mallicoat.
