Rev. Ronald H. Goodsman, 72, of Clinton, passed away, Sunday, December 4, 2016 at his home.
Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Henson, Lee Camp, Michael Henson, Steven Henson, Pastor Mark Schulz, and Ray Schramm. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Barbara Henson, Tiffany Henson McEwan, Ally Henson, Bonnie Glendenning Huse, Casandra Jackson, and Brenda Thorton. Ronald Herbert Goodsman was born on September 22, 1944 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Elaine (Ehlers) Goodsman. He was a 1963 graduate of Clinton High School , graduated Concordia College in Milwaukee in 1965 and Concordia Seminary in St Louis in 1971. He was ordained as a minister in service to the Lord at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton on June 13,1971.
He served his Lord by shepherding congregations in Kennett, MO, Guthrie Center, Panora, West DesMoines and DeWitt Iowa. He also spearheaded the creation of Grace Lutheran Camp on Highway 61 outside of DeWitt. It was his passion to have a place where "All kids are loved and accepted"
In 2000 The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod named him as that years recipient of the C.F.W. Walther Award in recognition of his commitment to students, parents, and continued support of Lutheran Admission Counselors. He also received recognition as one of the Outstanding Young Men in America in 1975.
His style, grace, commitment to his Savior and raucous laugh will never be forgotten.
He suffered from two terminal cancers and a heart attack. He was diagnosed with multiple myeleoma in 2000 and with Larry Henson as his caregiver went thru two transplants at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He was diagnosed with a blood cancer in 2016 which was very aggressive.
He is survived by his mother Elaine Ehlers Goodsman of Clinton; two brothers Thomas (Bev) Goodsman of Clinton, and Keith (Debbie) Goodsman of Climax Springs, Missouri; five nieces and nephews; and his best friend and caregiver Larry (Barb) Henson who was his faithful support thru these illnesses.
He was preceded in death by his father, one brother Allen Robert, and his grandparents.
Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Camp in DeWitt.
