Marjorie J. (Mrs. Jerry) Gisel, 83, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Friday afternoon, October 21, 2016, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Marjorie Jane Gisel was born November 11, 1932, in Charlotte, the first child born to Ernest and Berniece (Roenfeldt) Soenksen. The family moved to DeWitt when she was five. Margie was a 1952 graduate of DeWitt High School. On December 14, 1952, she was united in marriage to Jerry Gisel by the Rev. Theodore Hinck. The couple resided near Welton where they raised their family. Margie was employed as a telephone operator in DeWitt, worked at the DeWitt Hospital and Westwing Place and operated a catering business for over 30 years with her sister, Elaine.

She was a longtime and active member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Margie enjoyed photography, gardening, cooking, baking, square dancing , camping at the State Fair and wintering in Florida.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry; children, Susan (Don) Petersen of Parkview, John (Jill) Gisel and Dennis Gisel of DeWitt; grandchildren, Kevin (Amber) Petersen, Andrew (Lynse) Gisel, Becca Gisel, Jamie Ong, Ryan Ong, Chris Hartmann, Abigail Hartmann and Margaret Hartmann; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Bailey, William Hartmann, Jace Gisel and Avery Hartmann; siblings, Elaine (Lewis) Schoening and Russell (Sandy) Soenksen; nieces and nephews.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2016. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Peter Hoft and Margie's nephew, the Rev. Dr. Jason Soenksen officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Ministries.
