Gerald T. “Buck” Stamp, 88, of Camanche passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Alverno – Clinton.

A private family graveside service will be at the Rock Island Arsenal where Military Honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion. Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting the family.

Gerald Theodore Stamp was born June 10, 1928 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Henry and Evelyn (Judd) Stamp. He was a 1946 graduate of Clinton High School. He received his Bachelors Degree in Education from Bradley University in Peoria in 1951 and his Masters Degree in Education in 1969 from Bradley University. Buck served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at the Elmendorf Airforce Base in Anchorage, Alaska for 2 years.

Buck married Harleane J. Green on March 15, 1952 in Peoria, Illinois. He was the first teacher hired at the Camanche High School. During his service to the Camanche School District he started and coached the basketball, wrestling, football and track programs. After 35 years he retired from teaching in 1993.

He enjoyed working in his yard and will always be remembered in Camanche for being on his bike riding around town. He was a member of the Theta XI Fraternity and a member of the Bradley University Hall of Fame for football, wrestling, and track. He recently was inducted in the Camanche Athletic Hall of Fame.

Buck is survived by his wife of 64 years, Harleane; one daughter: Susan (Steve) Reckman and their children Nathan Reckman and Britni (Jared) Parker; one son: Scott (Diane Darnell) Stamp and her children and grandchildren; one great granddaughter: Brinley; one brother: Dr. David (Sandra) Stamp of Denison, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.

Memorials may be made the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. The family requests that an condolence cards be sent to the funeral home 302 3rd Avenue South, Clinton, Iowa 52732
