Hazel Marie Outzen was born on February 12th, 1926 to George and Ella (Juber) Outzen in Clinton, Iowa. She was raised in Clinton and attended Clinton public schools. In 1941 she met Eugene Lutz, the love of her life. They married on February 19th, 1944 in Clinton, Iowa. Together they built a home for themselves and their five children across the street from where she was born and raised. Hazel and Gene loved the idea of having their children grow up next to their Grandparents and many Aunts, Uncles and cousins who also lived on the block. They both resided at that residence until their deaths.

Hazel retired from A.C. Neilsen Company. After retirement she and Gene enjoyed many years of boating, fishing, traveling in their RV and winters in Mount Dora, Florida. Hazel always looked forward to the breakfast and lunch dates with her cousins (a tradition that she hoped will continue on) and the bus trips with her “bestfriends” to the area casinos. Hazel’s passion in life was to make her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren know and feel her love. She will be sadly missed by them all.

Hazel is survived by three Daughters: Jeanne Benavides of Hewitt, Texas, Shiela (Gary) Buikema of Clinton and Barbara (Joe) Tobin of Iowa City; two Sons: Robert (Patricia) Lutz and Bruce (Dell) Lutz both of Clinton; fourteen grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two brother: Arnold (Pat) Outzen of Clinton and Llyod (Mary – Deceased) Outzen of Misilla Park, New Mexico; two brother-in-laws: David (Joyce) Lutz of Cordova, Illinois and Harold “Red” (Mary) Lutz of Alexander City, Alabama; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one infant brother, one sister and two great grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
