Charles A. Gool Jr., 90, of Clinton, passed away, Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Bickford Cottage.

Funeral Services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church – Clinton. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. Visitation will be from 1:00pm to the service time Wednesday at the church. Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family.

Charles Alva Gool, Jr. was born on February 25, 1926 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Charles and Johanna (Crose) Gool. He left for the United States Navy the day after he graduated from Clinton High School in May of 1944 and served for seven years. He married Marilyn A. Johnson on May 3, 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran Church; she passed away June 5, 2010.

Charlie was a firefighter for the Clinton Fire Department from 1952 to 1981 retiring as Assistant Fire Chief.

Charlie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and a member and past commander of the VFW and the American Legion.

Charlie is survived by two sons: Charles Gool, III, of Summerville, South Carolina and Lt. Col David Gool (Ret) of Tampa, Florida; his daughter: JoEllen (Terry) Klooster of Solon, Iowa; and one brother: John Gool of Jonesboro, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son: Robert, and one sister Joan Schroeder.
