Terrie Ann (Wilson) Meyer
May 26, 1966 - August 4, 2016

On August 4th, 2016, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice Home in Bettendorf, Terrie Meyer passed peacefully from the suffering of this life into the heavenly arms of her Savior. She was 50 years old.
Terrie was born in Clinton Iowa and spent her early childhood in Folletts. While she was still young, her family moved to Camanche, where she lived until she graduated college with her Bachelor’s degree. Terrie was a graduate of Camanche High School, class of 1984, Clinton Community College, The University of Iowa, and the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, finishing with a Master’s degree in Education. While at the University of Iowa, she met John Meyer, whom she married on February 17th, 1990. The new family moved to the Madison, Wisconsin, area where Terrie taught school at a private military academy and then as a long term substitute teacher at a local high school. Shortly after their daughter was born in 1994, the family moved to Rohnert Park, California, and in 1996, their son was born. The family lived in California for nearly 10 years where Terrie homeschooled their children. After John returned from active duty in Iraq, the family moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where they lived 18 months. In April, 2007, they moved to Whittier, Iowa. That same year, Terrie was diagnosed with pseudomyxoma peritonae, a rare abdominal cancer from which she survived for 9 years. Through all of this, Terrie successfully homeschooled her children, both graduating high school and going on to do well in college.
Other than her active involvement in home schooling and the home schooling community, she enjoyed living on the family’s small acreage, raising chickens and sheep, dogs and cats. Her favorite activities were reading, shopping, listening to audio books, watching TV, and going to Renaissance Fairs. Her favorite color was purple, which was evident in most of her possessions. Most of all, Terrie loved her family and devoted her life to them.
Terrie leaves behind, John Meyer, her husband; Lillian Meyer, her daughter; and Jacob Meyer, her son, from Whittier. She also leaves behind her parents, Larry and Dolores (LaBay) Wilson of Camanche; her sister, Bobbi Knutsen of Goose Lake; her brother, Larry Tray Wilson of Camanche; her grandmother, Mildred (Courts) Wilson of Clinton, many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandparents: Sylvester LaBay, Lillian (Wellman) LaBay, and Larry Wilson.
Visitation with the family will be at the Snell Zornig chapel in Camanche from 11 to 2 on Saturday, August 13th followed by a grave side service at Rosehill Cemetery. A meal for family and close friends will be provided at First Baptist in Camanche after the service. A potluck and celebration of life will be held at the Whittier Community Center on August 20th from 11 to 2.
Memorials will be used to fund Terrie’s children in their college education.
