25 June 1909 - The Lowden News

From Wednesday's Wheatland Gazette.

Thursday, about noon, the many friends of Mrs. A. J. Sittler were pained to learn of her death, which had been hourly expected since the day previous. The immediate cause of her death is attributed to heart goiter and a long siege of sickness had kept her in a precarious condition for several weeks past. Her naturally strong constitution and cheerfulness deceived even those who were continually about her as to her exact condition, and she would not give up until the last. She made no complaint, but accepted her lot as a part of fate and when the end came she passed from life at peace with her Maker.

Nellie Brendes was born July 22, 1872, in New Liberty, Scott county, Iowa. She lived there until the age of eight years, when her parents moved to Cedar county. There she grew to womanhood.

On the 25th day of March 1896, she was married to A. J. Sittler of Wheatland, since which she has made Wheatland her home.

She departed this life June 17, 1909, leaving her beloved husband, aged parents, eight sisters and one brother and a host of sorrowing friends to mourn her early demise.

She was a good Christian woman doing what was in her power, where she saw it was her duty. She taught a class at Sunday school up to the time she was unable to attend on account of her sickness.

The following sisters and brother, who attended the funeral are: Mrs. Henry Copke of Cottonwood, Minn., Louise Klotz, Holstein, Ia., Pauline Threde, Lake Park, Ia., Maggie Koch, Echo, Minn., Minnie Witt, Rock Island, Ills., Henry Brendes, Springfield township, Cedar county, Tillie Wisener, Mechanicsville, Ia., Lena Willey, Mechanicsville, Ia., and Kate Kleppe, Springfield township, And besides the out-of-town relatives are as follows: Mrs. Henry Sittler, Lyons, Ia., Emil Sittler, Lyons, Ia., Master Delvin Sittler, Lyons, Ia., Mrs. Wm. Sittler, Moline, Ills.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Gatermann at the German Reformed church Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, followed by interment in the High German cemetery. There were many friends present and the floral tributes were beautiful.
