William J. Collins, 85, of Clinton, died Sunday, May 15, 2016, at his home in Clinton. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11 AM, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the service hour at the church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

William was born October 6, 1930 in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Michael and Barbara (Spudich) Collins. He was educated in the Savanna, Illinois Schools. William married Betty Gray August 10, 1957 in Preston, Iowa.

William had been employed as a custodian with the Clinton Community Schools for many years and had also been employed at Allied Structural Steel in Clinton.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as a corporal in the Canine Corp.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, was an avid sports fan and coached Little League Baseball in Clinton. He was a lifelong Lumber King’s fan and season ticket holder for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Clinton; son, Tim Collins of Clinton; daughter Tammy Ryan of Clinton; sister, Mildred “Jimmy” Shores of Savanna; several nieces and nephews and his beloved cat, Pumpkin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.
