Maxine R. (Johannes) Hagge died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Alverno. She was 96. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Prince of Peace Parish Church on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 9:00 am. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting www.snellzornig.com.

Maxine Rosea Johannes was born November 21, 1919 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Matthias and Anna (Johann) Johannes. She married Claude “Pete” Hagge on December 28, 1940 in Louisville, Kentucky; he preceded her in death November 27, 1994. Except for the war years, Maxine and Pete were lifelong residents of Clinton and members of local Roman Catholic parishes.

Maxine was a homemaker. She also owned and operated Hagge Dry Goods in the 50’s. For many years she worked as a realtor, also owning Clinton Abstract & Title Company. Pete and Maxine enjoyed extensive travel, both in the U. S. and abroad, living several months in Korea while Pete worked as an engineering consultant. They also spent winters in southern California during their retirement years. She was a member of the Clinton Country Club and was a former member of the Clinton P.E.O. For over 50 years Maxine enjoyed a bridge club with the same group of women.

Maxine and Pete had three children: Suzanne (Michael) McNiel of Iowa City, Thomas (Donna) Hagge of Georgetown, Texas, and Patricia (Gregory) Hagge of Clinton. Maxine and Pete had nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, one brother, one sister and her parents.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mercy Hospice or the YWCA, Rapid Rehousing Program.
