Robert "Bob" L. Salyars, of Davenport, Iowa and formerly of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Genesis Medical Center - East Campus on Friday, May 13, 2016. Honoring Bob's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded with a funeral service taking place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive Clinton, Iowa). A visitation will occur two hours prior to the funeral service from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche, Iowa. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bob was born December 4, 1944 in Guthrie Center, Iowa, the son of Lyle and Lois (Triplett) Salyars.
Bob loved cooking so much it lead him to a career as a chef. He started working as a chef in the 1960's, which included the Hilltop Nursing Home, the Moose Club in Davenport, the Davenport Country Club and finally retiring with the Clinton Country Club after 26 years of service there.
Other than his passion for cooking, he enjoyed playing cards and tending to his flowers. He loved socializing with people, he had the knack for talking to anyone about anything. He also loved going to the annual family reunion and sharing family memories and trivia. Above all, he loved his family very much and will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his one sister - Rose Bowdish of Davenport, IA; one brother - Garey (Karen) Salyars of Stanwood, IA; with many nieces, including his loving niece Dixie Peterson of Davenport, IA. who cared for him, nephews, cousins and the many friends he met throughout his life.Preceding Bob in death were his parents, two sisters and five brothers.
