Joseph Earl “Joe” Short, 83, of Clinton, died Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Bickford Assisted Living Center, Clinton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, February 11, 2016 at The Catholic Church of the Visitation, Camanche. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM, Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Joe was born January 7, 1933 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Aubrey Earl and Mary (Harrington) Short. He was a Keokuk High School graduate. Joe was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. Joseph married Joan Lynch at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton on June 3, 1961; she passed away May 29, 2004.
Joe was employed as a lineman with North Western Bell, ATT and Lucent Technologies for more than 35 years prior to retiring. Joe volunteered his time and talents as a lineman helping the blind with their equipment and machines.
Joe was a member of the Church of Visitation, former member of Prince of Peace, Moose Lodge #363 and the Fulton Country Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Ann Short of Winchester, VA; sons, Jeff (Angie) Short of Titusville, FL and Jim (Michele) Short of Camanche, IA; daughter-in-law, Theresa White; grandchildren, Lindsey, Colin, Erin, Josh, Eric, Ryan and Tyler and five great-grandchildren. The family extends a special thank you to his fishing buddy, Dick Sartwell and best friend Jim Timmer.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart and Lung Association, the Church of the Visitation or Prince of Peace.
