Richard I. (Dick) Powell, 84, of Camanche, passed away, Monday, October 26, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center-Clinton.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Friday, October, 30, 2015 at the Evangelical Free Church in Clinton. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche. Military Honors will be conducted by the Clinton AMVETS. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is handling the arrangements. Richard Ivan Powell was born March 14, 1931 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of C. Ivan and Pauline Elizabeth (Nichols) Powell. He lived his entire life in Camanche. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1948 and attended Bradley University.

Rich was drafted into the United States Army in September of 1951 and served during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Campaign Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He felt strongly about the honor of serving his country.

He married Nanette Pieper on January 21, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clinton. They celebrated 63 years of marriage.

After the service he was employed with Clinton Corn. In 1967, he went to work for Chemplex Company as safety supervisor and a project engineer. He retired in 1991. He sold real estate during his retirement.

He was a past member of the Camanche American Legion and Clinton AMVETS, and a life-member of the Camanche VFW Post. He served as a city councilman, volunteer fireman, Clinton County sheriff's patrol volunteer, and was a Camanche School Board member.

Rich loved fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed woodworking and had passion for writing. He wrote life stories and historical articles which he self published for family.

Rich lived his life to care for his family, country, and friends and adhered to his Army 2nd Infantry Battalion motto, “Second to None”. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife Nan of Camanche; five children: Mike (Chris) Powell of Papillion, Nebraska, Lora (Larry) Baltes of Lisbon, Iowa, Carol (Frank) Taucher of Clinton, Iowa, Meg (Pete) Hinrichsen of Camanche and Monica (Eric) Pugh of Winterset, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; his sister, Natalie (Donald) Swanson of Elgin, Illinois; and his brother: Curtis G. (Margaret) Powell of Tomahawk, Wisconsin.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents.
