Mr. William F. Martin, 83, of Calamus, died Wednesday evening, December 9, 2015, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.

William Francis Martin was born May 14, 1932, at rural Grand Mound, Iowa, to Melvin and Esther (McManus) Martin. He was a graduate of Grand Mound High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. On May 4, 1957, Bill was united in marriage to Janice Stichter in Davenport. The couple resided in Calamus where they raised their family of seven children. He worked in the autobody department at Strieters Motors for 38 years until retirement. His wife preceded him in death on August 4, 2004.

He was a member of St. Philip and James Catholic Curch, Calamus American Legion, Wapsi Oaks Country Club and American Coon Hunters Association. As an avid outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.

Surviving are children, Debbie (Heath) Proesch and Susie (Bill Burgos) Martin of Calamus, Pat (Robin) Martin of Tipton, Laurie (Brett) Friederichs of Maysville, Kelly Martin of Tipton and Steve Martin of Calamus; grandchildren, Thomas LaMaster, Casey (Courtney) Hack, Jamie Martin, Ryan Martin, Jasan Martin, Kailee Martin, Marcus (Megan Mohr) Friederichs, Morgan (DJ) Whalen, Madison Ruchotzke and Tyler McManus; great-grandchildren, Kinley and Kamden Hack, Parker and Kenley Friederichs, Carson LaMaster, Bentley Auredon and Kayden Whalen; siblings, Donny (Ginny) Martin, Sissy Carleton and Essie (Marv) Flammang.

Preceding Bill in death in addition to his wife were a son, Dennis; his parents and siblings, Bobby Martin and Collette Conroy.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 14th (casual dress requested both days) with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 15th at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. Burial and military rites will be in the church cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
