Curtis Frederick Heil, 88, of Charlotte, Iowa, died peacefully Tuesday morning, December 8, 2015, in his home surrounded by his family.

Curtis was born March 3, 1927, in Charlotte to Fred and Anna (Petersen) Heil. Following graduation from high school in 1945, Curtis served in the Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Fawn Camp on July 10, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. He owned and operated Heil Feed & Farm Supply in Charlotte for over 40 years.

Curtis was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. He was also a member of the American Legion and the volunteer fire department. Curtis served on the Charlotte city council for many years, and as Sunday School superintendent. He loved music, singing in the church choir, Country Chorale, Fiesta Village chorus, and was the last original member of the Charlotte German Band. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, wood carving, gardening, wintering in Texas, and visiting with his “new-best” and “old-gold” friends. Curtis loved his Lord, his wife and his family.

In addition to his loving wife of 66 years, Fawn, he is survived by a daughter, Gwen (Bill) Costello of Charlotte, and a son Lynn (Deborah) Heil of Sedona, AZ; grandchildren, Ryan, Abby, Hadley, Allison, Cameron, and Travis; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister Marcella Grantz.

He was preceded in death by a son Jason, a granddaughter, Terra, and a sister, Dorothy.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – until 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday December 12th in the church with the Rev. Anthony Dodgers officiating. Burial will follow at Rossiter Cemetery, Charlotte.
