John W. Spencer died April 25,1906 at his residence. He was 63 years old. He was born May 1, 1843 in Savannah, NY and came to Clinton, IA in 1868 with his parents, George and Amanda (Haywood) Spencer. He left his wife,Aselia Comfort Warren, 2 daughters, Alice Amanda Johnston of Davenport, Helen (Mrs. Herbert Taylor)of Clinton, and a daughter-in-law, Mary Spencer, widow of Frank Spencer.Also he left 2 brothers, Fred Wilcox Spencer of Toronto, Canada (and later
of Chicago, IL) and Thomas of Vineland, New Jersey.(From The Clinton Herald)
