Gerald E. Wriedt, 100, of Clinton, passed away, Monday, September 22, 2014, at Mercy Living Center – North.

Private services will be Thursday, September 25, 2014. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Sarah Harding Senior Living Center, 308 S. Bluff Boulevard, Clinton, IA.

Gerald was born on May 16, 1914, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of John and Minnie (Allasee) Wriedt. He was raised in south Clinton and was a 1935 graduate of Clinton High School. He married Esther Kracht on October 7, 1939 in Clinton. She passed away in 2009 after 70 years of marriage.

He served in the United States Army from 1944 - 1945, and then worked at Oak Grove and Elmwood dairies before being hired as a custodian for Clinton Pubic Schools. Gerald worked at different schools over 28 years and retired in 1976 while working at Longfellow Elementary School. He was a member of Chancy Lutheran Church, Clinton Moose Lodge, and the Clinton AMVETS. His pastimes included fishing, woodworking and following his favorite sports teams, especially the Chicago Cubs.

Gerald is survived by one son: Kenneth (Brenda) Wriedt living part-time in Thornton, Colorado, and Fulton, Illinois, one daughter: Sheila (John) McMullen of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, and one sister.
Memorials can be made to the Sarah Harding Senior Living Center, 308 S. Bluff Boulevard, Clinton, IA, where Gerald lived for eight years.
