Robert Hamilton Dalrymple was born in Clinton, August 11, 1924 to George and Mary Dalrymple. He was a 1942 graduate of Clinton High School. His father passed away October 23, 1930. His mother died November 22, 1982. On June 15, 1952 he was married to Alice Loreen Melendy in Clinton; she died in 1993. He later married Jean Stanely in 1994.

Baseball and the YMCA have been a big part of Bob’s life. Born and raised in Clinton, Bob has been around Clinton YMCA since the age of 10. Bob recalls the Bill Sims era at the YMCA and has fond memories of his involvement with the Y’s Mens Club. “We were the first service club to have a booth at Riverboat Days and we featured the famous Y burger”, Bob said. The club also sold Christmas trees as a fundraiser. Bob was in charge of the YMCA membership drive that was held for years and performed many costumed skits as part of the kick off program. I guess you could say the YMCA played a big part in his life.

Baseball also had a big influence on Bob’s life. If major league baseball had as many farm clubs as they do today, Bob might have had the chance to play for the Chicago White Sox. He spent about 6 weeks trying out for the White Sox as short stop in 1945. He played ball with the Clinton Industrial League in the 1940’s. He was one of six mangers of Clinton’s first little league baseball for 6 years. Bob also was a bat boy for the Clinton Demons in the Independent League in the 1930’s. He is a former member of the Clinton Baseball Club and had served as board president. Bob ran the public address system at the Clinton games for 17 years, which included announcing the lineups before the games and announcing commercial advertising. He worked the booth for many years alongside George Kampling(former Clinton Herald sports editor) and Gary Determan of KROS.

Bob was also a member of the Clinton County Historical Society and had also been involved with United Way fund-raising campaigns. All of his memorabilia was donated to the Clinton County Historical Society and Clinton Baseball Association.

Bob worked for 21 years for Carnes Oil Company and 20 years for Ringland Johnson, Inc.

Bob is survived by his wife Jean of Clinton, one son, David (Mary) Dalrymple of Clinton, 2 grandchildren, Scott and Kelly, and a great-grandson Kane; one step-daughter Rosey (John) Seidelmann of Winston-Salem, NC and one step-son Mark (Diane) Stanley of Spring City, Tennessee.
