Vinson J. Carpenter, 83, of Clinton, died Monday, April 21, 2014 at his home in Clinton.

Memorial Services will be 6:15 pm, Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00pm Monday at the funeral home. The body has been cremated and burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Vinson John Carpenter was born on December 24, 1930 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Vinson and Bernice (Thompson) Carpenter. He married Margery Louise Dawson on February 1, 1953; she died May 21, 2012.

Vinson served in the United States Marines. He was employed with Clausen Warehousing as a truck driver/mechanic for over 25 years.

Vinson enjoyed family, fishing, stock car races, car shows and going to the casino.

Vinson is survived by two sons: Michael (Julie) Carpenter of Clinton, and Steven (Becky) Carpenter of Alliance, Nebraska; two daughters: Lou Ann Stahl of Clinton, and Sandra Farina of Joliet, Illinois; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren; and one
sister; Annette Brown of Clinton.

Vinson was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one granddaughter, and a son-in-law.

Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the family.
