Jimmie L. "Jim" Garlough, 68, of Wheatland, Iowa, died early Tuesday morning, March 18, 2014, at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt, Iowa.

Jimmie Lee Garlough was born August 12, 1945, to Duwane and Dorothy (Miller) Garlough, in Davenport, Iowa. After graduation from Central Community Schools of DeWitt in 1963, Jim served in the Army. He worked at Caterpillar for 30 years. After retirement from Cat, Jim worked various part time jobs. Jim married Arla Kay Schutt in 1969. He later married Jessie Anderson on February 10, 1979.

Jim was a member of Christian Free Lutheran Church, Wheatland. He was also a member of the Wheatland American Legion and Wheatland Jaycees. Jim served 29 years on the Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department, several of those as Chief. Jim loved driving in demolition derbies, bowling, hunting, fishing, his RED antique tractors, and talking with family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife of 35 years, Jessie, Jim is survived by his children, Shawn (Robin) Garlough, Clinton, William (Wendy) Garlough, Swedona, Illinois, Carrie (James) Chaplin, Durant, Melissa (Jim Palmer) Garlough, Swedona, Illinois; step-children Tammy Heartsock, Columbus Junction, Jessica, John, and Charles Speers, all of Hannibal, Missouri, Ronney Speers of Maquoketa; 28 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Barb (Tim) Joseph, Phoenix, Arizona, Jo Garlough, Harrah, Oklahoma, Carolyn Delinger, New Braunfels, Texas, Jerry (Jill) Garlough, Salem, Oregon, Mary Garlough, DeWitt, Steve (JoAnn) Garlough, Walcott, Cheryl (Steve) Ditty, Warrens, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter-in-law, Retta Speers.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the funeral home. Pastor Eric Swenson will officiate. Burial and military rites will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Garlough, Bradley Ditty, Paul Greve, Gregory Davis, Francis McMahon, Gary McMahon, and Jeff Jacobi. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Garlough, Ronald McMahon, and Ernie Hilbert.
