LuElla C. “Lee” Shepard, 85, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Sunday afternoon, March 16, 2014, at Manor Care, Bettendorf.

LuElla Caroline Shepard was born February 27, 1929, to William and Caroline (Hausechild) Burkle, in Wilton Junction, Iowa. After graduating Valedictorian of her high school class, Lee worked as a waitress, during which time she met her husband Joseph Shepard. They were united in marriage on September 9, 1950, in Princeton, Missouri. The couple resided in Davenport for several years, where Lee worked as a cabinet maker at Brammer’s, and at Brachs Candy Company. They later lived in Missouri for several years. After Joseph preceded her in death in 1992, Lee moved back to Iowa.

Lee had been a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. She served meals while living at Lutheran Manor. Lee enjoyed ceramics, flowers, her exercise class, playing bingo, and the Bettendorf Parks and Recreation Senior Citizen Club.

She is survived by her brothers, Leland Burkle of Grimes, LaVern Burkle of Davenport; a sister, Lillian Forrester of Weaubleau, Missouri; nieces and nephews; a step-daughter; and other relatives and friends.

In addition her husband, Joe, Lee was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law Melvin Forrester; sisters-in-law Joyce Burkle, and Shirley Burkle; and her niece, Theresa.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, Iowa. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
