Bernice A. Newmarch, 90, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Friday morning, March 14, 2014, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Bernice Audrey Newmarch was born October 4, 1923, in Otter Creek, Iowa, to David and Gertrude (Scholtes) Marcus. After graduation from high school, she was licensed as a beautician. Bernice married Lloyd Newmarch in 1943. She owned and operated Newmarch Beauty Shop and later worked at various factories in the area, and provided in-home health care for many years.

Bernice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Her involvement in religious activities was very important to her. She liked flowers, playing cards and bingo, visiting with her friends and neighbors. Bernice especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Gary Newmarch of Glenwood, Iowa, Larry (Becky) Newmarch of Clinton, Iowa, Bonnie (Hank) Lehmkuhl of Camanche, Iowa, Diane (Bob) Voss of Marion, Iowa, and Rick (Julia) Newmarch of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Tommy, Amanda, Mark, Amy, Kevin, Craig, Lance, and Casey; great-grandchildren, Maria, Wesley, Owen, Cole, Jacob, Tyler, Lucas, and Joaquin; brothers, Orlyn “Joe” Marcus of Kissimmee, Florida, and David (Shirley) Marcus of Paradise, California; nieces and nephews.

Bernice was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Bernadine and Charles Getzandaner, and their son Leo; and her daughter, Nancy Fuller.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, Iowa, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly, Celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
