Helen Louise Kerr, 76, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Wednesday evening, March 12, 2014 at Clarrisa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Helen was born August 30, 1937, to Pete and Beulah Bishop. She was one of eight children born to the couple. Coming from that size of a family, Helen learned to share at an early age. The family only had one bike, so she and each of her siblings took a day of the week to ride the bike. Helen married Gene Kerr in 1957. She worked as a cook at the Welton School for 25 years, and more recently at Barnes Foodland until her retirement this past year.

Her cooking and baking was loved by all, and Helen was quick to offer them her knowledge and skill. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren. In earlier years, she would pick up Tyler and Megan after school for play dates in the park and ice cream at Hardee’s. Helen greatly enjoyed the trip to Las Vegas for Megan’s 21st birthday. She also enjoyed making quilts, traveling south in the winter months, and camping, especially with her grandchildren. Her other favorite past time was her weekly gambling trips to the Quad City casinos with her dear friend, Barb Stansbury. Helen was a former Girl Scout leader and member of the Eastern Star. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are twin daughters and sons-in-law, Terry (Robert) Goodall of DeWitt and Tammy (Richard) Crull of Washington, Iowa; a grandson, Tyler (Megan) Goodall; granddaughters, Megan Goodall, Jamie (Matt) Schneider, and Ashley Crull; great-granddaughters, Renae Crull and Layla Schneider; siblings, Joe, Lucy and Sally.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and siblings, Willie, Wally, Wesley and Mary.

Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, in the Funeral Home with Deacon Mike Sheil officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Tyler and Megan Goodall, Megan Goodall and Tim Govier, Jamie Schneider and Ashley Crull.
