The Clinton Herald; May 3, 1901; p.8. A Life Closes James Murphy Passes Away at His Home This Morning After four weeks of illness and suffering, borne with Christian courage, James Murphy passed away at 11 o'clock this morning, at his home at Fourth street and Railroad avenue.
The deceased was born in Ireland 59 years ago, and when a boy came to America, taking up his residence in Clinton county when a youth and during the greater part of his life remaining here, of late years in Lyons. A faithful husband and a loving father, his death is a sad blow to the members of his household, who are his wife, two sons, Joseph J. and Thomas V. Murphy, and four daughters, Mary, Agnes, Lucy and Winifred. Other relatives are his sisters, Mrs. Mary Laughlin of Lyons, and Mrs. O'Brien of Nebraska, and his brothers, Michael Murphy of Bryan, Patrick Murphy of Lincoln, Neb. and Thomas Murphy of this city. His quiet, blameless life is ended; a life devoted to his family and his home. But though he is dead, his memory will long be cherished among a wide circle of friends, attracted by his kindly, genial nature, and his upright manly ways. The funeral will be held at 8 o'clock Sunday morning, from St. Irenaeus church, followed by interment in Calvary cemetery.
