The Clinton Herald Friday October 25, 1918 p.8 Death Claims Lyons Young Woman Today Death following a serious illness of only a few weeks, came at 1 o'clock this morning to Agnes Murphy, daughter of Mrs. B. Murphy, at her home, 1001 North Fourth street. Agnes Murphy was born at Tama City, Ia., September 10, 1880, and come to Lyons at the age of seven years. She recieved her education at St. Irenaeus school in Lyons and grew to womanhood here. Her home interest was the center of her devotion, and she gave her life entirely to the care of her mother and the other members of the family. In religion, Agnes Murphy was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Irenaeus church and a faithful attendant at all services, her devotion never relaxing even when her health would scarcely permit her leaving home. Several months ago a gradual decline began to show that grwo until a week ago when there came a realization that the end was near. Her last few days were under the care of her sister Winifred, a trained nurse from Des Moines. Left to mourn her departure are the morther, two brothers and three sisters, J.J. and T.V. Murphy of Lyons, Sister Mary Amata of Burlington; Lucy and Winifred, no funeral plans have been made.
The Clinton Herald Saturday October 26, 1918 p. 8 Miss Agnes Murphy Funeral Held Today Rev. Leo Roling Officates at Services in Calvary Cemetery Private funeral services for Miss Agnes Murphy were held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the home of the mother, Mrs. B. Murphy, 1001 North Fourth Fourth street. Rev. Leo Roling assistant pastor at St. Irenaeus church read the burial service at the grave in Calvary cemetery. Those attending the casket were Frank Foley, William Laughllin, William Burke and James Campbell. Sister Mary Amata, a sister of the deceased and Sister Mary Vincenzo of Lourdes academy, Burlington, were here to attend the funeral.
