Sarah Elizabeth Wolfe, 38, of East Liberty, Pennsylvania passed away suddenly on February 6, 2014. A Funeral Mass for Sarah and her sister Susan Wolfe will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 14, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Catholic Church (1105 LaMetta Wynn Drive, Clinton, Iowa – just off Mill Creek Parkway). A visitation will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, at the Church. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Sarah was born on March 14, 1975 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Jack and Pierrette Wolfe. She earned a Masters of Public Health in 2004 and an M.D. in 2007 from The University of Iowa and recently completed a residency in Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh's Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. Sarah served children, adolescents and families at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, and served as a consultant at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. She was an assistant professor with the University of Pittsburgh, Department of Psychiatry.
Sarah was a compassionate and brilliant doctor, colleague and scholar. She was able to offer her patients and their families a rare combination deep knowledge of practices and research in her field and a fundamental respect for their strength and suffering. In addition, despite the distance and long hours she worked, she maintained an extremely close relationship with her family back in Iowa, talking every day with her parents and other family members.
Sarah is survived by her parents, Jack and Pierrette Wolfe; four sisters, Mary Wolfe of Clinton, IA, Katie (John Mote) of Washington, D.C., Christy (Dan Carroll) of Cedar Rapids, IA and Jennifer Wolfe of Iowa City, IA, as well as two brothers Kevin (Deirdre Egan) Wolfe of Iowa City, IA and John (Rita Platt) of St. Croix Falls, WI; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the YWCA Crisis Center or L'Arche of Clinton, IA.
