Varena D. Forbes, 90, of Clinton, IA, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehab in Clinton. Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Monday, February 3, 2103 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche. Pallbearers will be Peter Lassen, Tyson Lassen, Andrew Lassen, Thomas King, Jr., Randy King, and Zakry King. A Luncheon will follow at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Camanche.

Varena was born February 24, 1923 in Clinton, IA to Francis H. and Florence L. (Stewart) Smith. She was a 1941 graduate of Clinton High School. Varena was a homemaker and was the church secretary for St Mark’s United Methodist Church in Camanche. She married Verne King, Jr. on April 12, 1947 in Camanche, IA. She later married Donald Forbes on July 13, 1969 in Ottumwa, IA; He passed away March 27, 1988.

She is survived by her daughter, Varena E. King of Clinton, IA; son Thomas (Debra) R. King, Sr. of Camanche, IA; her first husband, Verne King, Jr. of Camanche, IA; five grandsons; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stewart (Della-Mae) Smith of Fulton, IL and William H. Smith of Camanche, IA; sister Flo-Arlene Davis of Clinton and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, and a sister-in-law.
