Donna Ruth Evans, 77, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away at Mercy Medical Center - North on January 7, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 manufacturing drive - just west of Clinton Lawn Cemetery). A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Donna was born October 8, 1936 in Rock Island, Illinois the daughter of Clarence and Madeleine (Daxon) Lockwood. She was married to Don Evans, the love of her life, until his death in 1975.
She participated in the Special Olympics, were she won many medals, and the PEP Group. She was also a faithful volunteer for the Salvation Army, attaining many awards there for her long time bell ringing until she couldn't do it anymore. She was also a member and volunteer for the Exodus II group for the mentally the disabled.
Donna was given the title of "Ambassador of Card Writing" by her many friends at Mercy Living Center- North (the former Wyndcrest) for helping so many write various cards for special occasions. She even received accolades in the local newspaper for her unselfish time spent writing cards for anyone who needed her help. She would also help the staff at Mercy Living Center- North with any jobs they had that she could do. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.
Donna is survived by five sisters - Mary (Dan) Bonk of Bensenville IL., Joyce Lockwood of Clinton, IL., Katherine Lockwood of IL., Diane Lockwood of Sycamore, IL., Shirley Clark of Clinton, IA., One brother - Larry Lockwood of Clinton, IA.; many nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many friends.
Preceding Donna in death were her parents and husband.
Memorials made will be directed to the wishes of the family.
