Nancy Lea Schmidt, 72, of Delmar, Iowa, died on Friday evening, January 17, 2014, at The Alverno in Clinton, Iowa, surrounded by her family.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 23, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Bliedorn. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 P.M. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Pine Hill Cemetery, rural Grand Mound, Iowa.

Nancy Lea Hageman was born on February 16, 1941 in Clinton, Iowa, to Duane and Alberta (Reimer) Hageman. She grew up in Clinton and was a 1959 graduate of Clinton High School. She then attended St. Lukes School of Nursing in Davenport graduating with her R.N. in 1962. She married Donald Lee Schmidt on October 7, 1962 in Clinton, Iowa.

Nancy had worked as a Registered Nurse at the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa and later at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland. From 1977 until her retirement in 2005 she worked for Dr. Wulf and Medical Associates in Clinton, Iowa.

Nancy was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Bliedorn where she had been active in teaching Sunday and Bible School. She took great pride in her home and loved flower gardening and landscaping. She enjoyed cooking, recreational bicycling, traveling, and eating out. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events.

Those left to honor Nancy's memory include her husband, Donald Schmidt of Delmar, IA; sons, Michael (Mary Heiring) Schmidt of Maquoketa, IA, and Mark (Nicole Reed) Schmidt of DeWitt, IA; 5 grandchildren, Carissa, Holly, Amanda, Alexa and Austin; 5 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol (Jim) Spangler of Brookfield, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Pine Hill Cemetery or St. John's Lutheran Church at Bliedorn.
