Norman Ray Schroder, 87, of Princeton, Iowa, died Tuesday evening, December 10, 2013, in his home.

Norman was born April 11, 1926, to Hans Christian and Clara Belle (Plett) Schroder, on the family farm in Scott County near Blue Grass, where he was raised. He attended Davenport High School. Norm was united in marriage to Dorla J. Dannatt on February 17, 1951, at the Princeton Presbyterian Church, Princeton, Iowa. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, and was honorably discharged in June of 1953. He farmed his entire life and was also a rural letter carrier for 26 years, retiring in January 1987.

Norm was a lifelong member of the Princeton Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #26 Davenport, the National Right to Work Association, and a 50 year member of the Rural Letter Carriers of Iowa. Norm served on the North Scott School Board, and the Scott County Farm Bureau. He loved attending farm, horse and tractor auctions. He enjoyed driving both his team of horses and his restored tractors. Norm spent many hours woodworking, leaving many mementoes for his family. He immensely enjoyed his family and friends.

Norm is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorla; a son Ned (Deena) of Princeton; daughters, Honda (Jim) Bielefeldt of Somerville, New Jersey, and Sally (Rusty) Moore of Springfield, Illinois; grandchildren Chad (Becky) Schroder, Toby (Brenda) Schroder, Kelcy (Andy) Hanson, Sean (Heather) Bielefeldt, Joel (Laura) Bielefeldt, and Casey (Jennifer) Caskey; two step grandchildren Molly and Jennifer; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Carl, Erwin, Harold, and Donald; sisters Otie and Mary; a son-in-law David Caskey.

Family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Private Burial and Military rites will be held at McCausland Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11: 00 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013, at the Princeton Presbyterian Church, Princeton, Iowa. The Reverend Matthew Froeschle will officiate.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Princeton Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, the National Right to Work Association, or Genesis Hospice.
