Maxine L. (Mrs. Robert) Wimer, 94, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Sunday evening, July 21, 2013, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

A service will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with the Reverend Jeff Wartgow officiating.

Mrs. Wimer, the former Maxine Louise Mowers was born November 14, 1918 in DeWitt, Iowa. Maxine was one of three children born to Roy and Maude (Langridge) Mowers, and at a young age, the family moved to Maquoketa, Iowa. She was a graduate of Maquoketa High School. When she was 21 years of age, Maxine was united in marriage to Robert E. "Bob" Wimer on April 22, 1939, in Dubuque, Iowa. They later moved to Clinton, Iowa, where Maxine worked as a secretary for Doctor Ellison and later Doctor Young. Her husband, Bob worked for the Civil Service at the former VA Domiciliary in Clinton. When it closed, the couple moved to Elsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota, where Bob worked until retirement in 1973. Shortly thereafter, they moved to DeWitt to spend their retirement years. Bob preceded her in death on August 19, 2000.

She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church, Clinton, where she was very active in youth ministry for many years. Maxine also attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. She deeply cared about others and even though Maxine had no children of her own, to those that knew her well, she was the mother type. Maxine was a very giving sole and demonstrated this in the end by donating her body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy for research.

Surviving are a niece, Judy Gerzetich of Riverton, Illinois; special friends including, Jean Lauritzen of Clinton and Mary Gelaude of Delmar, Iowa.

In additional to her husband, Bob, Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Helen Hildebrand and a brother, Albert Mowers.
