Elizabeth Jane Case Williams

Charlotte Chronicles
Charlotte, Sept. 22, 1892

DIED.-At her home one-half mile west of Charlotte, Tuesday morning at 2 A.M. Elizabeth Jane, wife of Stephen Williams. she was born in Clay Co., Indiana, July 4th, 1838, was married Nov. 9th, 1859, and died Sept., 20th, 1892. she moved with her parents to Iowa when quite a small girl, and lived near Lyons and vicinity for several years. She was the mother of ten children and all are alive; She also leaves eight grandchildren. She was a true, loving, faithful wife, a kind, noble hearted, motherly mother, a good neighbor and a true friend. She was the living embodiment of what wife, a mother, and neighbor should be.
"None knew her but to love her, None named her but to praise."
Besides her direct relatives, she leaves a host of friends who will miss her pleasant words of greeting. Her remains were interred in the North (McClure) Cemetery Wednesday afternoon, where lie the remins of father, mother, two brothers, two sisters and nine nephews and nieces, one Uncle and one Aunt and two grandchildren. The Rev. J.R.A. Hannsen, spoke words of hope, encouragement and consolation to the bereaved. The choir sang her favorite hymns. Her coffin was covered with choice flowers contributed by loving friends. Her unexpected death was a surprise and shock to the whole community and the broad, deep stream of sympathy and assistance which was extended to the family was appreciated and the bereaved ones tender their heart-felt thanks to all who helped them in this the darkest hour of their lives. The Children say: Farewell, mother, we will always miss you and remember you while life is ours. Her boys, Henry, Wirt and Joseph were here from Rockwell City, and Louisiana, her oldest daughter, reached here this morning. So nine of her children were present and the tenth on the way to see her mother. She fought a good fight, the world was better by her being in it and as she has lain down the burden of life she sweetly sleeps in a blissful hope of meeting her savior and her God.
