Richard L. Nichols, 84 of Grand Mound, Iowa, died Sunday evening, March 24, 2013 at Westwing Place, DeWitt, Iowa.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013. A Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, in Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. The Reverend Father William Kneemiller will officiate. Interment will be at Davenport Memorial Park.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Marquette Academy 1116 W. 6th St. Davenport, Iowa, NAMI of Scott Co or Alzheimer's Association.

Richard Lawrence Nichols was born December 19, 1928 in rural Madison County, Iowa, to Alvin and Madge (Simmons) Nichols. He resided there, until moving to Davenport, Iowa, in 1944. He married Patricia Schebler in 1950. Dick worked for Industrial Engineering Equipment Company in Davenport for 25 years. In the early 80's he founded Quality Electric Motor Service with Clark Travis in Keokuk, Iowa. Ten years later, Dick and his son Michael founded Precision Electric in Winterset, Iowa. He and his wife moved to Grand Mound, in 2005 to retire.

Dick's work was his life. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed watching the children play. Dick truly enjoyed the simple things in life. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Pat; children, Audrey (Brian) Dugan of Davenport, Mary (J. Patrick) Behan of Grand Mound, Richard (Susan) Nichols, II of Sutter, Illinois; Theresa (Michael) Hughes and John (Lori) Nichols of Grand Mound, and Michael (Rhonda) Nichols of Abingdon, Illinois; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, a brother and a grandson.
