MOSES GAGE

Died at his residence in Calamus on the 28th of March, 1874 of Pneumonia. Moses Gage, Esq. aged 55 years.

Deceased was born in Bedford, New Hampshire, was married to Jane Dunlap, of that place, June 3d, 1844. Three years afterwards he removed with his family to the State Of Texas, where he resided for seven years. He then returned to New Hampshire and after remaining one year, came to Iowa, since which time he has been a resident of this county(Clinton County), living the greater part of the time in De Witt.

His wife and two daughters (Josephine & Fanny) survive him, and the sympathy of the entire community is with them in this their great affliction.

In the language of one of his neighbors, "the best man in this place is gone."

His remains were brought to De Witt and interred with Masonic honors, as he had been a member of the order ever since his residence in Texas.

(Burial at the old De Witt Cemetery)
