Knowlton, Mary Miller Saturday September 7, 1907 p 8 This morning at her home, on Sixth avenue, occurred the death of Mrs. O.S. Knowlton, an old-time resident of this city. Mrs. Knowlton’s health has been failing for the past three years, and she passed away this morning at about eight thirty. Mary Miller was born near Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the twenty-second of February, 1831. Here she passed her girlhood days, coming to this part of the country after her marriage. She was married in 1853 to O.S. Knowlton. Coming first to Fulton, Illinois; they lived there for eleven years. In 1864 they came to the city of Clinton, where they have since lived. The family is well known throughout this section of the country, Mr. Knowlton having been engaged hereabouts in business for fifty-four years. Mrs. Knowlton has many friends in Clinton and Fulton, who knew and respected her for a woman of kindly, Christian disposition. She has been connected with the Methodist Episcopal church, to which she has belonged for years, becoming a member before coming to Clinton. Her work in that and charitable causes has won her the esteem of all who came in contact with her personally. Mrs. Knowlton is survived by her husband and one son, Arthur of Carroll, Iowa. Both of these were at her bedside at the time of her death. There are eight grandchildren also living. Funeral services will be held at the residence, 738 Sixth avenue, Tuesday morning at ten thirty, with the Rev. T.M. Evans officiating. Internment will be made at Springdale cemetery.
