Benjamin P. Dimmick, 85, of Camanche, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Mercy Living Center, South, Clinton.

Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Camanche VFW. Serving as pallbearers will be Craig Dimmick, Kevin Dimmick, Larry Pendleton, Dean Wiebers, Steve Wiebers, and Brendan Driscoll. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be all other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.

Benjamin Paul Dimmick was born on April 29, 1927 in East Troy, Wisconsin, the son of Delbert and Bernice (Schade) Dimmick. He was raised in Thomson, Illinois, until he married Elsie (Wiebers) Walker on June 13, 1969 and then moved to Camanche.

Ben was a veteran of the United States Navy from 1945-1946.

Ben was employed at Burpee’s Seed Company for 34 years. He also served as the sexton of Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche for 15 years and the YMCA in Clinton.

Ben loved to do woodworking, gardening and he also loved his beautiful roses. He loved visiting with his grandchildren and playing with his great-grandchildren. Ben loved to walk around the yard and sitting under the tree in his favorite lawn chair. He also loved to sit and talk to anyone and always and a smile on his face, while smoking his pipe.

Ben is survived by his wife: Elsie of Camanche; two sons: Paul Dimmick of Maquoketa, Iowa, Jodi (Sunshine) Dimmick of Lebanon, Missouri, a step-son: Joseph Walker, Jr., of Camanche, and a step-daughter: Cindy (Gary) Herch of Camanche; 6 grandchildren: David Dimmick, James Dimmick, Darien Dimmick, Ben Dimmick, Jeff Dimmick, Sara (Ed) Jenkins, and Kelli Herch; and 5 great-grandchildren: Alexandria, Carter, Jaylynn, Josilynn, and Jazmine; and several nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church in Camanche or family wishes.
