John Howard Lind, 81, of Camanche, died Friday, December 21, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the service hour Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
John was born December 13, 1931 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of John and Flora (Lund) Lind. He married Diana Whitehouse September 2, 1951 in Clinton; she died July 26, 1991.
John had been employed at Clinton Corn for more than 29 years before retiring.
John was one of the founders of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche, he was a volunteer with the Camanche Historical Society, was a member of Western Star Lodge 100 AF & AM and the Clinton Moose Lodge. John christened everyone he knew with a nickname.
He is survived by his children, Virginia “Punch” (Arthur) Mayers of Dixon, IL; Jeffrey John (Denise) Lind of Clinton; Janis Joy (James) Meakins of Fulton; Gregrey Frank (Wendy) Lind of DeWitt; Gary James Lind of Clinton; Paul Wade Lind of Monticello, IA and Corinna Marie (Timothy) Waidelich of Camanche; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, two great great granddaughters and his brother, James Lind of Clinton.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and a great grandson.
The family requests that memorials may be made to Western Star or the Newtown Memorial.
