Eugene R. Madsen, 80, of Clinton, died Saturday at Eagle Point Nursing Home, Clinton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Stephens Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael C. Brewer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in the Miles Cemetery, Miles.
Pallbearers will be Scott Holub, Jason Gruhn, Russell Madsen, Lee Haring, Gary Madsen, Phillip Koch, Raymond Hollister, Paul Roy, Carl Henricksen, Russell Paulsen, Alan Ven Huizen and Andy Fredericksen.
He was born July 6, 1922, in Sterling, Iowa, to Herluf and Anna Marie Bondesen Madsen. He married Rosella Simpson on Oct. 24, 1943, in Camanche.
He graduated from Miles High School in 1939. He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. He served in Patton's Army and received a presidential citation. He farmed near Andover and Charlotte for 36 years before retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Saint Stephens Lutheran Church, the Miles American Legion and the Lyons Social Group Club.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Rose Anne (Jack) Smith of Clinton; one son, Richard (Ember) Madsen of Altoona, Pa.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Beulah Haring of Burlington; one brother, Cylde (Lorraine) Madsen of DeWitt; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
A memorial fund has been established.
