John George Ritzmann was born in Switzerland, Canton Schauffhausen, August 20, 1830. He came to America with his family and settled in Bloomfield Township, Clinton County, Iowa, in 1883, where he lived until his decease, March 21, 1898. In 1856 he was married to Maria U. Gisel and to this happy union ten children were born, two of whom died in infancy.
John was baptised in infancy and at the age of 17 he was confirmed in the Reformed Church of Switzerland. His Christian life was one of great faith and devotion and grew brighter until he entered the fullness of eternal joy. The aged wife, three sons, on of whom lives in Los Angeles, California and five daughters, one living in Eureka, California, one in Sioux City, one in New York, one near Andrew and one at home still survive to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate father. He has gone to his reward and rests from all earthly labors. Funeral services at the Union Church were held Friday at 10:30 a.m. The German sermon was given by Rev. O. E. Beck of Clinton and the English sermon by Rev. D. E. Boomershine of Maquoketa. Interment was made in the Union church cemetery.
