LeRoy C. Rickertsen, 81, of Charlotte died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 28, at Nelson Heesch Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will be in Rossiter Cemetery in Charlotte.
LeRoy Rickertsen was born March 14, 1922, in Charlotte to Herman and Christina Mohr Rickertsen.
He was a CPL of the U.S. Army serving in World War II from May 1945 to December 1946. During his service in the military, he was a construction foreman serving with the 8th engineers in Japan, supervising the activities of a 12-man squad in the construction of quonset huts, bridges and swimming pools.
He married Betty Scharff June 11, 1950, in Charlotte. She died July 22, 1995.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 715 of Charlotte.
LeRoy enjoyed fishing and was an avid Cubs, Bears and Hawkeye fan.
He was retired from Charlotte Lumber Co., previously known as Hart Lumber Co., where he was a carpenter for many years.
Surviving are his daughters, Karla Marik of Camanche and Sandy VanDeWalle of Central City, Neb.; sons, Stanley of St. Charles, Ill., Lonnie of Cedar Rapids, and Martin of Bryant; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Schoolman of Bryant, Evelyn Witt of Goose Lake, Dorothy Grim of Washington, Arlene Eicksteadt of Davenport; a brother, Walter of Clinton; and five sisters-in-law.
He was also preceded in death by eight brothers.
Memorials may be made to the family.
