Edna Emma Michaelsen, 88, of Savanna, Illinois and formerly of Sabula, Iowa died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at her home at Big Meadows Nursing Home surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Nate Kooi, Rickey Hale, Matthew Michaelsen, Dan Michaelsen, Dave Michaelsen, and Joe Michaelsen. Honorary pallbearer will be Allan Michaelsen. Visitation will be 9:30 am until the service hour at the funeral home.
Edna Emma Andresen was born February 16, 1923 in Clinton, Iowa to Frederick and Emma (Brandenburg) Andresen. She married Donald F. Michaelsen on May 29, 1940 in Clinton. He died March 22, 2003.
She was a homemaker.
Edna was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clinton, Iowa, a former member of the United Methodist Church in Sabula, the secretary and treasurer of the United Methodist Women, and a trustee of the Senior Citizens of Sabula. She taught Sunday school and was always a willing worker for the church. She also enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family.
She is survived by 3 sons: Donald L. (Kathy) Michaelsen of Thomson, Illinois; Gary (Mary Jo) Michaelsen of Sparta, Wisconsin; and James (Lori) Michaelsen of Camanche, Iowa; daughter-in-law: Ruby Michaelsen of Sabula, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren; one sister: Maxine Norman of Charlotte, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband Don, son Jerry Michaelsen, one grandson Randy Hale, 6 brothers, and 5 sisters.
