Alva "Wells" Snyder - 95
9/9/1915 - 1/26/2011Fulton - Alva “Wells” Snyder, age 95, Fulton died Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Saturday, January 29th at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Following the services cremation rites will be accorded.
Wells was born on September 9, 1915, on the old Snyder farm in Garden Plain Township, the son of Artemus and Nellie Galusha Snyder. He married Dolores McMahon in Morrison on June 2, 1945. He farmed in Whiteside County where he had a welding shop. Later he farmed near Sabula, IA and then moved to Clinton where he worked at Climax Motor Company as a First Class Machinist, and later in life had a small engine and sharpening shop in Garden Plain. Wells enjoyed gardening, trout fishing, hunting, cutting wood, playing guitar and his family.
Wells is survived by his wife, Dolores; two sons, Edwin (Barbara) Snyder and Arnold (Lori) Snyder both of Clinton; two daughters, Diane (Bruce) Berg of Clinton and Larraine (fiancé Renold Huizenga) Schipper of Wheatland; 13 grandchildren; Douglas (Jennifer Lee) Snyder of Chicago, Joseph (Julie) Snyder of Sterling, Barbara (Roger) Farr of Clinton, Beth (Aaron) Bly of Buffalo, IA, Kristie Bradley of Charlotte, NC, Kathy (Phillip) Maynor of Charlotte, NC, Sara (Brian) Feldt of Clinton, Aron (Renee) Snyder of Clinton, Brian (Rose) Berg of Cedar Rapids, Cody Schipper of Fulton, Jenna Schipper of Clinton and Melinda Treskon and Jessica Banker; 32 great grandchildren; a great-great grand daughter and a brother, Joseph (Lucille) Snyder of Fulton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dennis Snyder, three sisters, Juanita Sissing, Beulah Vandershaaf, Lorna Haag and a brother Donavan Snyder.
