Clinton, Iowa - Gertrude E. Chambers age 86 of Clinton, formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 26th at the Pape Funeral Home. Private family services will be held on Thursday at the funeral home with burial in Miles Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren.

Gertrude was born on the family farm near Miles, Iowa on October 4, 1924, the daughter of John P. and Elsie Johnson Jepsen. She married Orval W. Chambers on April 5, 1947 in Clinton. Orval died on October 28, 1996. Gertrude was employed at the Clinton County Home in Charlotte for 21 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a former member of the Charlotte United Methodist Church. Gertrude was known for her gardening and sewing. She enjoyed playing cards, crafts and doing for others.

Gertrude is survived by five children; Michael (Paula) Chambers of Charlotte, Janie (Bruce) Chambers of Clinton, Joanie (Jim) Kilburg of Bellevue, June (Russ) Mielk of Clinton and Judy (Rob) Solan of Lake Forrest, CA; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Sadie (Jack) Hosette of Clinton, Vera Soll of Miles and Betty (Louie and Shirley) Messerli of Clinton and a brother, Hans (Sandy) Jepsen of Sabula. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Margaret and Millie and a brother Glenn. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com
