(February 27, 1926 - September 28, 2010)

Kermit M. Ketelsen, 84, rural DeWitt, died Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport, following a battle with cancer.

Kermit Marvin Ketelsen was born February 27, 1926 at rural Goose Lake. On July 31, 1949, Kermit was united in marriage to Julia Irene Mensinger at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. He farmed much of his life and was a claims adjuster for American Mutual Insurance for 22 years.

Kermit was a longtime and active member of Immanuel Lutheran, Charlotte, serving as Elder, Trustee and Congregation President and belonged to Immanuel's Fellowship Club. He also was a member and Past-President of the Clinton Historical Society in Clinton. Kermit was a corn items collector and member of the Missouri Valley Wrench Club and Iowa Barb Wire Club. He wrote a column in the Charlotte Web entitled "Kermit's Kolumn" until recently. He enjoyed family get-togethers, going to auctions, camping and traveling.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Julia; a daughter and son-in-law, Twila and Jim Robinson, Silvis, Illinois; a son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Colleen Ketelsen, DeWitt; grandchildren, Carsten, Creighton, Weston; step-grandchilden, Alicia and April; step-great-grandchildren, Abe and Ava.

Preceding Kermit in death were his parents, a brother, Elmer and a sister, Vera Hansen.

Visitiation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2010 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. The Rev. Terry Ellis will officiate. Burial will follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte, or the charity of the donors choice.

Pallbearers will be Carsten Ketelsen, Creighton Ketelsen, Weston Ketelsen, Jack Starbuck, Lauren Hansen and Paul Ketelsen.
