WheatlandGeorge H. Russ, age 73, of Wheatland, Iowa, died Sunday, September 12, 2010 in Kahoka,Missouri. George was born February 7, 1937, in Cedar County, Iowa to Aurthur and Pearl (Horne) Russ. George married Bethel Klahn on July 12, 1959, in Wheatland.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Peace United Church Of Christ in Bennett, Iowa, with Pastor Barbara Keiper officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Wheatland with graveside military rites. Visitation will be held from 3:30-7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 15, at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland. In lieu of flowers memorials to Wheatland American Legion or Wheatland Community Hall.
George served in the Navy and worked as a machinist at Caterpillar, retiring in 1987. He currently was commander of the Wheatland American Legion and president of the Wheatland Community Hall.
He is survived by his wife Bethel; daughters: Linda (Gary) Oliphant of Rowley, Iowa, and Joy (Dana) Pelley of Toronto, Iowa; a son David (Robin) of Caty, Texas; his mother Pearl of Lowden; a brother David (Gerry) of Santa Barbara, California; also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother.
