The Clinton Herald; June 8, 1944; p. 14 Mrs. Joseph J. Murphy, 324 Fourth avenue North, died at 2:25 p.m. yesterday in a Des Moines hospital where she had been a patient the past week. The body will be brought to the Snell funeral home to repose pending funeral arrangements.
Mrs. Murphy, the former Mary Ellen Barry, was born in the old town of Lyons, June 24, 1871, daughter of Richard and Bridget Barry. She was married to Joseph A. Murphy, Nov. 18, 1900, in Clintoin, where she always had lived. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church and a member of the Altar and Rosary society. She also was affiliated with the Women of the Moose.
She is survived by her husband, a son, Paul V. Murphy, Chicago and three daughters, Mrs. J.R. Logan, Des Moines; Ruth Murphy, Washington, D.C. and Staff Sgt. Alice Murphy, WAC, who is overseas. There are two grandchildren.
Her parents and a son in infancy preceded her in death.
