Howard W. Kearney, age 91, of Wheatland, Iowa, passed away peacefully August 19, 2010, in Carson City, Nevada. Howard was born October 19, 1918, in Lucas, Kansas to Earl and Effie (Herndon) Kearney. Howard married Alice Feddersen January 29, 1947.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at St. Paul's United Church Of Christ in Wheatland, Iowa, with Reverend John Cofield officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time at the church. Arrangements have been made with Chapman Funeral Home-Wheatland.

During the depression, Howard served in the civilian conservation corps under the Roosevelt New Deal program, building roads and bridges in Arkansas and Idaho. Howard served in the US Army in World War II European, African, and mid-Eastern theaters from 1943 to 1945. After marriage he worked as a carpenter, and a farmer. Howard enjoyed fishing and playing cribbage, and getting to know his new friends at Sierra Place in Carson City, where he lived the last few months. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by 4 children: Marilyn (Ken) Brinnick, Marla (Gary) Johnson, Carol Olsen, and Dennis (Susan) Kearney; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife, son Paul Kearney, and son-in law Jim Olsen.
