5/12/1919 - 8/11/2010Clinton - Georgiana Kathryn Baasch age 91 of Clinton died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 14th at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Daniel Pool officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Georgiana was born in Elk River Township on May 12, 1919, the daughter of Hans and Flossie Struve Baasch. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1938 and Mt. St. Clare College in 1939. Georgiana taught in rural schools for many years. She received her BA Degree from the University of Iowa in 1960. She taught at the Camanche Elementary School for 21 years retiring in 1982 after 42 ½ years of teaching.
Georgiana was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, its Mary Martha Circle and Over 50 Club. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and a life member of both the American Schleswig-Holstein Heritage Society and the German American Heritage Center. She loved animals especially watching and feeding the birds.
Georgiana is survived by two sisters; Pauline Baasch of Clinton and Evelyn (Elvis) Wieck of DeWitt; a brother, Edward (Shirley) Baasch of rural Clinton; three nieces, Kathlyn Hofman of DeWitt, Susan Coon of Clinton and Debra Sebby of LaFollette, TN and eight great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a niece Cheryl Wieck and an infant nephew. On line condolences may be left at www.papefh.com
