(January 22, 1987 - August 8, 2010)

Dena Marie Schoening, 23, Grand Mound, Iowa, died suddenly at home on Sunday, August 08, 2010 of a brain seizure.
Family and friends may visit from 4 until 7pm Friday, August 13, 2010 at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, Iowa. Father David Brownfield will hold a vigil service following the visitation on Friday at the funeral home. Private graveside services will be held Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Calvary Cemetery in Grand Mound, Iowa with Father David Brownfield as celebrant. Memorials may be made to the family and will be designated at a later date. Nelson Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Dena was born in Davenport, Iowa on January 22, 1987, the daughter of Mark and Linda Schoening. She was baptized, celebrated her first communion and was confirmed at SS Philip & James Catholic Church in Grand Mound, Iowa. She was a 2005 graduate of Central Community High School in DeWitt, Iowa. She attended Kirkwood Community College and in spite of her struggles with epileptic seizures she graduated this past spring, 2010 with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. She was self-employed.

Dena met her fiancé, Kyle Mackie in 2006. He became her best friend and soul mate. She recently had enjoyed planning her wedding and they were to be married on Saturday, October 2nd of 2010.

Dena loved spending time with her fiancé, family and friends and working on home improvements at their new home in Grand Mound. Her passion was caring for those she loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her fiancé, Kyle Mackie, Grand Mound, Iowa; parents, Mark and Linda Schoening; a brother, Mitch Schoening; grandparents, Lawrence and Marjorie Schoening, all of DeWitt, Iowa, and Vince and Regina Hahn of Grand Mound, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a brother, Drew Schoening, a cousin Neil McReynolds, and great-grandparents, William and Matilda Schoening, Harry and Ursula Hahn, Peter and Mary Vens and Joseph and Dorothy Lunardi.
